Islip, NY – Sherwood Elementary School 3rd graders recently visited Islip Town Hall for a field trip that included stops at the Islip Public Library and the Islip Fire Department. The three cohorts of students rotated between the agencies, allowing all students to discover the unique roles each plays within our community.
At Islip Town Hall, students were greeted by Supervisor Angie Carpenter, who explained the Town Board’s role in serving the more than 340,000 residents in Islip Town. Students also learned about the Town’s popular summer camps, DRIVE-IN movies, and other recreational opportunities through the Town’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.
Along with the Supervisor, representatives from the Town of Islip Department of Personnel presented each group with a history lesson on the Town’s founding and the process by which laws are made and enacted.
“It’s always such a delight to welcome so many bright young minds who are truly interested in learning about their Town, government, and community,” said Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Our sincere thanks to the hard-working teachers who continue to instill the values of community and the importance of civic engagement into future generations.”
