On Monday May 27th, hundreds lined the parade route under bright blue skies for the 65th Annual West Islip American Legion Post 1738 Memorial Day Parade.

The Legion’s float celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the American Legion. The West Islip High School Marching Band was outstanding, and Taps was beautifully performed by Ryan. All joined in recognizing John, a special WWII Veteran.

Accompanying Supervisor Carpenter on the reviewing stand were Islip Town Councilman and Navy Veteran John Cochrane; Suffolk County Comptroller, John Kennedy; Lt. Colonel USAF, Msgr. Brian McNamara of Our Lady of Lourdes; Assemblyman Mike LiPetri; Legislator Steve Flotteron; West Islip School District Supt. Bernadette Burns; School Board President, Steve Gellar along with board members.

“Thank you to all of the Legion members, and to the West Islip community for coming out to support, thank, and honor our local veterans,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
