Gang Prevention

Taking Back Our Neighborhood
Combating gang violence is the goal of a joint effort by Islip Town, Suffolk County and New York State Governor Andrew Coumo. The Brentwood Community has received $15 Million in State funds to construct a new community hub to serve over 19,000 Brentwood students. The new community center will provide social services, educational and recreational opportunities for Brentwood boys and girls. The grant will be used to improve park safety, improve lighting and provide surveillance cameras. This project is co-chaired by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
This project will expand on Supervisor Angie Carpenter’s efforts to increase funds for additional surveillance cameras and Public Safety Patrols for an increased presence, as well as working closely with the Suffolk County Police Department.
