Carpenter Team Obtains Grant for Central Islip Revitalization

Islip has been awarded $10 Million from New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Grant to be used toward renewing downtown Central Islip. The money is specifically slated to improve a two-mile stretch of Carleton Avenue from South Street to the Central Islip Railroad Station. This effort is targeted to restore Central Islip’s downtown with new affordable housing, commercial development and improved transportation with an underlying goal to attract millennials to live and work in Central Islip.

A 17-person planning committee including Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Long Island Ducks owner Frank Boulton, Central Islip’s School Board President Norman Wagner and Central Islip’s Civic Association’s Special Projects Coordinator Nancy Manfredonia has been formed to guide the project.
